Kundang Lakes - 15th January 2016

8 Eggers played today for our normal quarterly fix at Kundang Lakes. Andrew made a good effort to be late by heading South towards Malacca but despite being on the road for over 1hour and 15 minutes still managed to register on time (guess he was determined not to pay the 20 Ringgit fine).  Due to the recent heavy rain the fairways were ‘boggy’ in places but generally in reasonable condition and the greens although not the best were very acceptable.   2 points separated the top 5 scores with Barry on 33, Allan and Richard on 34, Glen and Peter on 35 points. Peter was the eventual winner OCB over Glen who had a magnificent front 9 scoring 21 points.

As a few players couldn’t make lunch it was decided to complete the Kundang Lakes experience by having a quick lunch at the ‘club’ which was attend by all players, washed down with cans of beer.  As usual Peter’s lunch was the first to arrive despite playing in the second flight and ordering well after the first flight.  Glen again told us in his normal fashion that his fried rice was too spicy to eat therefore he only ate the fried egg. The cost per head was MYR 100 for the golf, buggy, bottle of water and bottle of 100 plus each, meal and beers.  Must still be one of the best value for money courses. It was also noted by the first group that Barry ‘Versace' Sage is starting to become a Fashion Guru matching his pink top with his pink tee, maybe we will see him in pink shorts and pink shoes in the near future. Next weeks game will be at Bukit Beruntung.

Kundang Lakes Country Club - 14th August 2015

When you hear the term "Country Club" this conjures up a luxurious club with wonderful facilities, great food, service and first class sports facilities. When you turn up at Kundang Lakes Country Club this illusion is sadly distorted with a very basic clubhouse, poor changing rooms and a course that is rather rough around the edges. However this course has its charm and for all its faults has a wonderful layout and is a pleasure to play. Weather was good and the course was in reasonable shape given although the greens were very slow and with the slops on some proved very troublesome to many. We had 9 players today and we were off sharp at 7:35 and all back in the clubhouse .... sorry .... shack by 12:00. We had lunch at the Heng Hin Restaurant in back down the road and close to the Rahman Putra Golf Course.

Kundang Lakes - 5th June 2015

8 Eggers took to the mysterious Kungdang Lakes.  Check in was probably the quickest in Malaysia.

8 golfers please, “sure that will be 8 x 70, thats 560 Ringgit please.”  Total time 48 seconds.

However finding a key that works for a locker if you were fortunate to have  a secure locker 8 minutes.

We were also surprised that the price included a free drink of water or 100 plus.  For convenience we all opted for 100 plus but for some reason they gave us 2 bottles of 100 plus per player so we had a total of 1,600 plus.

The course was quiet therefore the round was quick and we were only held up by our bad shots and looking for out balls. The course was in reasonably good condition especially the greens.  For those who hadn’t played the course before, or only a few times or not for a long time found the layout challenging (so that was all of us) especially the one hole where a bunker went across the complete fairway.  All 4 golfers in our flight managed to drive into this bunker from hell.

Results

This week result was very close and was won by Barry Sage with 35 stableford points and the lowest gross of 92.  Brian Stubbs was second with 34 points and equal third was Cameron McAinsh and Robert Mulliss with 33 points.

Lunch was at the nearby Heng Hin Seafood Restaurant and the drinks were paid kindly by Peter for having 3 rotten eggs, his total is now reset to zero.  Although this is a seafood restaurant we managed to order no seafood but to our surprise the vegetable curry has a fish in it including head and tail.

Rotten Egg Award

The award this week goes to Mike Smith for missing the turning to the course and subsequently turning up late despite having spent more time in KL than anyone else.

Finally what is the big mystery of Kungdang Lakes?

Is it because

- few people play this course despite being possible the best value for money
- the buggy cost more than the green fee
- check in takes less than 1 minute
- 200 plus is given to each player
- there are no shower heads on most of the showers, just a pipe in the wall
- no one has seriously been injured grossing from the 9th to the 10th hole

No the real mystery is the crazy pricing for a round of golf.

Kundang Lakes - 6th March 2015

6 Eggers took to the course today at Kundang Lakes with the majority experiencing the delights of the amenities for the first time. The recently opened highway heading away from the City Centre made the drive very quick and easy.

The fairways were in reasonable condition, and any poor lies on the fairway were taken care off with the pick and clean rule.  Greens were surprisingly in good condition.  Buggies were allowed on the fairway allowing us to finish the round in just under 4 hours.

The cost at 60 MYR per person (an additional of 10 MYR for another buggy) certainly makes this course one of the cheapest.  We decided have lunch at the club and several cans of beers and food later we were served with the enormous bill of 121 MYR.   The general consensus was great value for money and we should definitely be playing this course again in the future.

Results

Jeff Pearce got off to a flyer with a huge drive of 260 meters on the first hole, taking 3 further shots to get it in the hole which was only 10 meters away and walked off with a par.  The front 9 belonged to Robert Mulliss who again like last week score an excellent 22 points but this week managed to hang on and win with 34 points. The top 5 scores were very close with 3 points separating first and fifth place.  The lowest gross was scored by big hitting Jeff with a gross of 95.

Rotten Egg Award

Only one nomination today which was awarded to Peter Davies who organised the game today and sent out instructions for everyone to arrive on time with a helpful map showing the new speedy way to Kundang Lakes.  He subsequently turned up 10 minutes late and his excuse was because he followed the map and got lost.

As a footnote, Glen was also playing some great golf and then decide to leave his foot outside the cart.  He then kicked a tree root and thought he broke his big toe.  His game then improved and was kindly offered by his playing partner to break his other toes which Glen kindly declined.
