Staffield Country Resort - 28th August 2015

It was quite busy this morning when 12 Eggers showed up at Staffield .... and it was looking like we were going to have a delayed start due to the numbers queued up at both the Western and Southern Courses. However sense prevailed and the starter opened up the North course so we started on North then came back on the Western.

Conditions were excellent with beautiful weather and great course conditions. The greens were very good and the pin placements today were rather difficult on many of the holes.

We had 12 players today .... a welcome to our new guest Tom Holmes and a warm welcome back to one of our founder Egger, Allan McNicoll who somehow managed to wangle a trip back to Malaysia from South Africa for 5 weeks!!

After the game we drove north and back to the Restoran East of the Highway for an excellent lunch and a few cold ones.

I had a great game today and was quietly confident of winning .... only to be outdone by 1 point by Hans Berger who won with a great 43 points and a gross of 85 - well done Hans. I was runner up with the best gross of the day of 78 and 42 points.

Longest drive of the day was Allan McNicoll who took 20 hours to get to Malaysia from Capetown!

We really only had one decent nomination today and that went to Mike Smith unanimously for his abuse of the flag!! Yes ... you read that correctly. Apparently he blamed the flagstick which was lying on the green and was in his view when he missed a putt ..... furthermore he was the one that admitted leaving the flag there.

Bukit Beruntung - 21st August 2015

We played the West Course at Bukit Beruntung, which for many was a brand new course none of us had played, with the exception of Tony Morris who is a member at this club. Although the East Course is always stated to be the better course we were pleasantly surprised at the East Course which had some interesting hole layouts and design. The only negative comments would be the slow and bumpy greens and the very poor bunkers.

The weather was great, with clear skies, although by last few holes on the back 9 it was getting steamy. The course was relatively quite other than the few random Koreans who insisted on buzzing past us in their buggies and going ahead to play the hole ahead. Our group was not held up at all.

We took lunch in the club which was reasonable and fairly cheap.

It's a real shame that this club is rather run down and dilapidated as the course layouts are great and the large club and facilities could potentially be wonderful .... just needs a large input of cash .... and I guess some paying customers.

The winner today was Stuart Taylor with 35 points and the best gross of the day of 86. Runner up was Allan Wright with 33 points and a gross of 101. Full results below :

No award this week ..... Tony was almost going to be nominated as we thought his membership card which he left for us was not going to get us any discount. However we did get member's price so we relented on the nomination. However it was also a close call given the Troy Tempest from Stingray look-alike photo on Tony's membership card as shown below .... almost a nomination in it's own right!!
