Sungai Long - 30th January 2015

The FRID' Eggers decided to have a little treat today and enjoy the lush fairways of Sungai Long, undoubtedly one of the best courses in the KL area. With a special offer rate of RM208 it was well worth it as the course is really second to none. It was relatively quiet as 3 flights (11 pax) headed out on a beautiful clear day with blue skies and some stunning clouds.

Course conditions were really excellent with well manicured fairways and surroundings, wonderful greens and well maintained and laid out buggy tracks.

The 3 flights finished around just after 1pm and then we headed off to our favourite Ken Well Seafood Restaurant closeby in Jalan Kasturi area.

We welcomed some new Eggers this week - welcome to Hans Berger, Paul Geddes and Barry Sage.

It was Allan McNicoll's unofficial farewell game ... he is still around till 25th February before he heads for Cape Town, but his time may be limited in the next few weeks. He kindly paid for lunch and the drinks today .... thanks from everyone Allan.

Results

We had some good scores posted today .... Tony Morris was 3rd with 34 points (gross of 92), runner up was Peter Davies who shot an excellent 40 points (gross of 97) and the winner on a magnificent 41 points (gross of 89) was Allan McNicoll - congratulations Allan.

Rotten Egg Award

Andrew Robinson was duly awarded the Rotten Egg of the day for arranging to give Iain Wise a lift to the course and then asking Iain to find his way to Andrew's house to get the lift!! He also self-nominated himself for walking to his car post game and realised he still had his towel and locker key in his hands.

Barry Sage should really be given a Rotten Egg for not contributing the RM10 to the prize pot .... but since this was his first FRID' Eggs game we shall only note this as a warning.

Current Rotten Egg standings are as follows:

Kundung Lakes - 23rd January 2015

After many months of suggestions and pestering from Robert Mulliss to play Kundung Lakes we decided to play there this week. Ironically it was Robert Mulliss who pulled out from the game having remembered he was away that Friday.

So there were only 4 of us on the day - and what a beautiful day it was with clear, blue skies and a gentle breeze. The drive to Kundung Lakes via Sungai Buloh meanders through small kampongs and rural areas which make it an ethnically interesting drive. Arriving at the clubhouse we immediately noticed there was none there to take our bags from the car - so we had to carry our own bags over to the dismal looking clubhouse. Registration was easy and the price most attractive - only RM60 per head with buggy. The changing rooms were spartan and had an interesting water feature or reverse fountain ..... with water cascading through the roof onto one of the changing benches.

The course was quiet and we teed off on the first 9 which was a straight forward dog-leg left par 4. Half way down the first fairway Mike Smith was stranded in his buggy and eventually had to reverse the buggy all the way to the green having lost forward gear. A phone call to the clubhouse and soon the buggy was changed out.

The first 9 holes were quite pleasant but the back 9 Lakes holes were very scenic. Course condition was probably better than I expected although very much run down. The greens and bunkers were in good shape and although slow the greens ran very well. With some money injection this course has some potential to be very good with the layout and the scenery.

We finished by 1pm and then tried the delights of the shower room. The showers were ok .... I had warm water but some others didn't. After our shower we had an amusing incident with Allan McNicoll not being able to get into his locker - he thought he had lost his locker key and started to suspect one shady looking character who had been in the changing room. After being convinced he had lost his wallet, phone and keys we decided to call his phone ....... a loud ringing noise was immediately heard from one of the closed lockers. After numerous attempts to find the correct locker we eventually found his personal belongings in Stuart's locker. What had happened is that Stuart had emptied his locker before taking a shower and took all his personal valuables with him to the shower. Allan then used Stuart's locker by mistake to lock his things away .... hence the confusion. Old age and failing brains are becoming the norm with our golfing groups.

We then headed back to Sungai Buloh and had lunch at the Chinese restaurant we usually go to after Rahman Putra games ..... a good lunch and a few beers were enjoyed kindly sponsored by Stuart who was celebrating his Birthday the next day.

Rotten Egg Award

We had two nominations this week for a Rotten Egg Award. The first one was of course for Robert Mulliss for requesting this course numerous times and then backing out to play before the day ..... this was unanimously carried. The second nomination was for Allan McNicoll and the debacle in the changing room with his locker key ..... also carried.
