Results - Amverton Cove - 7th March 2014

An excellent day out at Amverton Cove with perfect weather and no-one on the course. We kicked off the morning at the clubhouse with a traditional breakfast of ...... fried eggs on French toast .... of course! The course was in excellent shape bar 2 greens which were under repair but still very good - and by the look of it will be 100% in a week or so. All the other greens were in tip-top condition and running true - wish we could say the same about our putting! The water hazards, which are plentiful at this course, were all very low due to the lack of rain but didn't stop us contributing our fair share of golf balls into the hazards.

Amusement of the morning was Allan McNicoll managing to rearrange the white tee box marker on Hole No 5 with his low level Exocet missile tee shot which went directly into the left hand round white tee box marker knocking the top off it (see photos for evidence). Even given this direct hit his ball still managed to continue and reach the water hazard.

We had 2 flights - a 3-ball and a 4-ball, the former finishing about 20 mins or so ahead of the 4-ball. We had one guest today, Michael - a friend of Glen who enjoyed the round and got the best bang for the dollar with his score. We had a good lunch and some refreshments at the club before heading back to KL.

The winner today with a tremendous round of 97 for 42 points was Glen Wombwell who is in excellent form at the moment and second was our ever steady player .... Kevin Wiggins with an 87 for 36 points - which could have been so much better as his first 9 was 23 points, only fading away under pressure on the back 9.

Rotten Egg Award

The Rotten Egg Award this week was awarded to Peter Davies who having just returned from 3 weeks vacation in Australia turned up at the club without his wallet. He was helped out by the kind generosity of his good friend Stuart who funded him for the day - Peter of course made good use of this and ordered amply in the food and beverage department over lunch! Cheers Peter .... don't worry the 'Scottish' interest is accruing as we type!
